10 July 2019 the Centre of Expertise for Good Governance of the Council of Europe, in cooperation with CESCI – Central European Service for Cross Border Initiatives, is organising the first Leadership Academy training on cross-border cooperation for local authorities of Ukraine and Hungary.

The participants, including representatives of the bordering Ukrainian and Hungarian local authorities, the Tisza EGTC, CESCI, and MinRegion, will be introduced to new thinking about cross-border cooperation and good governance at local level in a very interactive way, a range of innovative training techniques will be used. Participants will examine the challenges faced by cross border municipalities and learn how good leadership can tackle those challenges by strengthening the institutional capacities of the municipality and working effectively with local people and organisations; they will develop the awareness, knowledge, skills and attitudes that form the foundation of good leadership. In addition, the participants will learn how to apply the Council of Europe legal and capacity-building tools on cross-border cooperation. Practical consultations and assistance on the concrete CBC projects and structures can also be provided in the course of the programme.

This event initiates a series of Leadership Academy Programmes to be held during 2019-2020 for representatives of local authorities from the neighboring regions of Ukraine, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia with the participation of the best experts and practitioners of the border cooperation, coaches of the Council of Europe, representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development of Ukraine and trainers of the Council of Europe Programme “Decentralisation and Local Self-Government Reform in Ukraine”.

On 22 July, Ivanna Ibrahimova, one of the main international trainers of the Academy, will represent the Council of Europe Programme "Decentralisation and Local Self-Government Reform in Ukraine” and the Leadership Academy course at the round table “Ethical Leadership” held for the representatives of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine by the U-LEAD with Europe Programme within the framework of the project GIZ Eastern Partnership Regional Fund for Public Administration Reform project.
