Ukraine and Sweden will go on cooperating in terms of decentralisation

In the MinRegion there has been held a meeting of the Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine Tobias Tyberg.

The meeting participants discussed issues of the MinRegion priorities in decentralisation, repercussions of the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, as well as financial restrictions the local budgets are waiting for, the ministry plans of completing the process of territorial hromadas amalgamation and planning the consultative process of amending the Constitution of Ukraine and 2020 local election.

In his turn, Tobias Tyberg reassured that Sweden would continue supporting Ukraine in reforming the local self-government in accordance with the European Charter of the Local Self-Government.

The parties also discussed the activity of the Board of Decentralisation Donors, presided by Sweden this year, the Swedish-Ukrainian project “Support to Decentralisation in Ukraine” (SKL), the work of the Central Reform Office and the MinRegion coordination with other ministries.
