Irpin continues to twin with foreign municipalities. The other day, the mayors of Irpin and Syracuse (USA) held a working meeting and agreed to establish sisterly relations between the two cities.

This was announced by Oleksandr Markushyn, Mayor of Irpin.

“Syracuse, U.S., located in the state of New York, will become another sister city of Irpin. We agreed on this during an online meeting with the mayor of the city, Ben Walsh.
In addition, we discussed the development of a joint action plan for the possible assistance of Syracuse in the recovery of Irpin as well as the implementation of international twinning programmes regarding the cooperation of our municipalities in business development,” said Oleksandr Markushyn.

Irpin recently signed a Memorandum on International Partnership with the Mexican city of Tlajomulco. Earlier, Irpin twinned with Guernica, Spain. Irpin City Council also approved the decision to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with another Spanish city, Alcalá de Henares. Decentralization also reported on Irpin’s intentions to twin with Miami, US.

In March, the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine initiated the International Marathon of Local Governments aimed at drawing the attention of municipalities around the world to the tragedy of Ukrainian municipalities and boosting the process of establishing sisterly relations.
