Cherkasy and Bielefeld, Germany, entered into a solidarity partnership agreement. The document was signed by Anatolii Bondarenko, Mayor of Cherkasy, and Pit Clausen, Bürgermeister of Bielefeld.

This was announced by the official website of the Cherkasy City Council.

The agreement provides for the strengthening of economic, academic, technical and cultural ties. In addition, the German municipality will continue to help Cherkasy overcome the challenges of the war.

“We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and Cherkasy in this difficult time for your country. We admire the resilience and fortitude of your nation, the Cherkasy municipality, which lives and works in the conditions of a brutal war. We will continue to look for ways to help the city of Cherkasy and expand cooperation,” said Pit Clausen.

The mayor of Cherkasy thanked the community of the German city for the assistance provided even before the official relations between the cities were finalised.

“We are infinitely grateful to the entire global community, which extended a helping hand during a difficult time for Ukraine and supports us not just in word, but also in deed. It is a great honour for us to sign a twinning agreement with your great city at this fateful time for our country. We appreciate your support and will do everything to develop and extend our cooperation,” said Anatolii Bondarenko.

According to him, an agreement has already been reached regarding the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian defenders in the best clinics in Bielefeld.

It is reported that during its visit to Bielefeld, the Cherkasy delegation visited a utility company, Stadtwerke Bielefeld, learned about the operation of a wood-fired power plant, agreed on coordination with the doctors of the city of Bielefeld and met with refugees from Ukraine who found shelter in Germany. Today, about 4,000 Ukrainians live in Bielefeld.
