U-LEAD’s experts have created an infographic to explain related changes, requirements and obligations to local self-government bodies.

On 9 July 2023, the Law of Ukraine No. 2320-ІХ “On Waste Management” dated 20 June 2022 entered into force. The Law brings the legal regulation of relations in the field of waste management closer to the relevant EU Directives and is aimed at improving the environment and creating the appropriate waste management infrastructure.

Key innovations include:

• Implementation of the waste management hierarchy
• Planning of the waste management system at the national, regional and local levels
• Introduction of the extended producer responsibility system
• Creation of modern infrastructure and waste collection and processing facilities
• Improvement of waste management processes

Implementation of this Law will require bringing the existing regulations into line or developing new legal documents.

The infographic developed by U-LEAD’s experts presents the general requirements for waste management, the main functions of local self-government bodies in this area and the issue of bringing the waste management system in line in municipalities in simple terms.
