The city of Kyiv, and Kharkiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Chernivtsi Oblasts (regions) were at the head of the ranking in the area of social and economic development of regions for 2016. It was so written on his page on Facebook by Vice-Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko.

"The top five include the city of Kyiv, and Kharkiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Chernivtsi Oblasts (regions), according to the Monitoring of Social and Economic Development of Regions in 2016 published by the Ministry of Regional Development.

We initiated the rating assessment of social and economic development of regions in 2015. On the basis statistical data, Oblasts (regions) are rated on a quarterly basis subject to 27 indicators in six areas, and annually, subject to 64 indicators in 12 areas. Such assessment constitutes an element of the system for monitoring the implementation of the government's regional policy and determining the dynamic pattern. The ranking shows the efficiency of managerial decisions at the central and local levels. The main objective is to define priorities and strategic planning of regional development, enhance regional competitiveness on the basis of the ranking score", Hennadii Zubko noted.
