The Zaporizhzhia Local Government Development Centre, established with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme and MinRegion, hosted a round table meeting, during which the terms of the competition within the frames of the “Support for Ukraine in Emergency Management” project of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH were announced.
"We chose the Zaporizhzhia Oblast for this competition not by chance,” explained Zoya Filipova, coordinator of this GIZ project. “We have established partnership relations. The Veselivska hromada has already received support in this area. Therefore, we decided to give opportunity to other hromadas as well. We focus our attention on AHs, since we are interested in long-term relations and sustainable results.”
"During the safety conference in May, AHs expressed their interest in establishing fire safety centres,” said Zinayida Boyko, head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast State Administration. “Therefore, we are grateful to the GIZ project for giving hromadas the opportunity to take part in the competition and get the necessities.”
In order to achieve this goal, the winners of the competition will receive training and equipment intended for the use by the local fire brigades of AHs, namely to extinguish fire in the open air sites. The provision of basic technical assistance (additional lighting, use of hydraulic rescue equipment) is also envisaged.
Up to three winners are to be defined.
In addition, GIZ plans to support AHs in organising and conducting preventive informational and educational activities among the population by the end of 2018.
The competition will last until 22 June.
