The German city of Würzburg officially became a sister city of Lviv. Today, Andriy Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv, and Christian Schuchardt, Lord Mayor of Würzburg, signed a cooperation agreement. The German city of Würzburg became the 19th official partner of Lviv.
This was announced by the press service of the Lviv City Council.
“It is a great honour to have our friend Mayor Schuchardt here with us, who is not afraid to be in Lviv today. Our victory is possible thanks to cooperation with partners. Today we are honoured to enter into a partnership between our two cities. This moment is unique in that our colleagues helped us quite a lot even without any formal partnership. We have received support in building the UNBROKEN ecosystem, based entirely on trust. Only strong and courageous people are here, with us, in Ukraine at this time,” said Andriy Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv.

“We are signing this agreement in the name of peace. Neither Lord Mayor nor I, you and our residents could even imagine two years ago that we would live in times of such a terrible war. Now we have to win this war together by whatever means necessary and with whatever support that partner European countries are able to provide. As Mayor Sadovyi and I talked about the positive lessons that can be learned from this conflict, it is something that can then be used jointly in post-war Europe. At the territorial level, at the level of municipalities, we are the very people who should seek that cooperation in various fields such as culture, media and economic development. We have talked a lot about such projects in the last two days, and we are signing this agreement for the good of the people in Lviv and Würzburg,” said Christian Schuchardt, Mayor of Würzburgt.
According to the Lviv City Council, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Würzburg has joined in helping Lviv, providing funds in the total amount of EUR 210,000. Of these, about EUR 50,000 were allocated to the Lviv Academy of Arts to repair dormitories and about EUR 30,000 were used to build a shelter for displaced Ukrainians. The largest part of the funds will be used for the preparation of design and estimate documentation and expertise for the creation of the UNBROKEN rehabilitation centre on the basis of the polyclinic on the outpatient clinic at 25 Mazepy Str. Approximately EUR 10,000 was transferred to the 1st Territorial Medical Association of Lviv for the purchase of medical equipment for the rehabilitation centre.
Lviv has 19 partner cities in different countries of the world, including Banja Luka, Budapest, Vilnius, Winnipeg, Wrocław, Kraków, Kutaisi, Łódź, Lublin, Przemyśl, Plovdiv, Rishon LeZion, Rochdale, Rzeszów, Tbilisi, Freiburg, Chengdu, Cannes and Würzburg.
