The Kalush City Council approved the Draft Memorandum on Twinning and Cooperation between the Kalush urban municipality and the city of Viseu, Portugal.

This was announced by Andrii Naida, Mayor of Kalush.

“The geography of our international partnership and cooperation is expanding dynamically. From now on, the municipality of Kalush will have an incredibly wonderful sister city, a city of legends — Viseu, Portugal. The Kalush City Council voted to adopt the Memorandum on Cooperation between our municipalities, developed by both parties, and instructed me to sign it. I am grateful to our Portuguese friends for their trust. I am sure that our cooperation will be interesting and useful for both municipalities, because it always means new opportunities and experiences,” Andrii Naida wrote on his social media page.

The draft document acknowledges that the war in Ukraine led to mass displacement of Ukrainians from their homes and cities, including the city of Kalush. The city of Viseu hosted several Kalush families and citizens. Back in December 2022, the municipality of Viseu started a humanitarian campaign aimed at collecting various goods for children and adults of the Kalush urban municipality.

“The mayors of Kalush and Viseu expressed their intention to establish twinning relations between the two municipalities in various sectors of economy and investment, industry, education, culture and tourism. Kalush is interested in continuing the development of the urban municipality’s economy by establishing new business relationships, cooperation with trade and industrial institutions, associations of companies, and the implementation of new investment projects,” the Memorandum says.

At the beginning of the year, the Kalush municipality entered into a Memorandum of Solidarity Partnership with the German city of Lippstadt.
