Today, on 5 March, Kyiv hosts a conference for representatives of 30 partner amalgamated hromadas (AH). The event is organised within the framework of the initiative “Intelligent Energy Management in AHs”, jointly implemented by the U-LEAD with Europe Programme and Energy Efficiency in Municipalities II project. The conference brought together about 80 representatives from 30 pilot AHs, including heads of AHs and experts responsible for implementing municipal energy management (MEM).

At the beginning of the event, Sascha Kuhn (U-LEAD with Europe Programme) and Gregor Broemling (Energy Efficiency in Municipalities II project) welcomed guests, highlighting the importance of cost-effective energy management, and mentioned the first results of the Initiative implementation.

During the event, an awarding ceremony was held to present to 30 AHs the “energy manager kits”. Each set of equipment consists of professional tools for measuring technical parameters of energy efficiency for operational activity of energy manager. Afterwards, an intensive training for energy managers on how to use this equipment is foreseen.

The initiative is being implemented since September 2018 and will run up until the end of 2019. The pilot AHs have already participated in the series of trainings and practical activities on municipal energy management and started its implementation locally. It is expected that in future the introduction of MEM in the AHs will ensure energy savings of at least 5%. Taking into account the total cost of energy resources in 2018, 30 pilot AHs will be able to save more than UAH 15 million per year.

Dissemination of knowledge on MEM, good practices and other information materials is carried out through the network of Local Government Development Centers (LGDC) in 24 regions of Ukraine, as well as through the online platform “Misto EM” http://misto-em.org.ua.
